Article and photos by Melissa DeBrigida-Parent (Music Matters Media Productions, LLC & Philly Rock Radio) Veteran rock band Mr. BIG has decided to call it quits after 35 years. However, not before performing their hit songs around the world. Since the band's original drummer/co-founder Pat Torpey passed away from Parkinson's disease in 2018, original members Eric Martin (vocals), Billy Sheehan (Bass), and Paul Gilbert (guitar) felt it was time to close this chapter, on their terms and do it BIG. To complete the lineup, the band enlisted drummer Nick D’Virgilio (Spock’s Beard, Big Big Train). A highlight of the tour is that, for the first and only time, the band will perform their platinum-selling second album, 1991's 'Lean Into It,' in its entirety. Additionally, they will include other fan favorites in the setlist. The chart-topping, breakthrough album saw major commercial success, especially two ballads, "To Be with You" (which went to number one in multiple countries) and "Just Take My Heart," as well as the song "Green-Tinted Sixties Mind." The first leg of the tour took the band to Japan and Southeast Asia in July and August 2023. Meanwhile, shows in the United States, Europe, and South America launched in early 2024, with additional shows still being added. Last Friday, February 9, Mr. BIG took the stage at the Keswick Theatre and put on one of the best live shows I’ve seen in a very long time. The band performed like a well-oiled machine, as one unit, while still showcasing each member's talent and skills individually. Vocals, harmonies, bass, guitar, and drums—all on point, all top-notch. A highlight for me was Paul Gilbert showing Philly some love with his “Rocky Balboa” guitar solo. The audience was on their feet and engaged from beginning to end, singing along and dancing as they were taken on a trip back in time. There is still time to catch Mr. Big here in the U.S. before they head to Europe, so grab those tickets! Don’t miss out on your chance to experience real, LIVE music! Band Members: Billy Sheehan (bass), Eric Martin (vocals), Paul Gilbert (guitars), and Nick D’ Virgilio (drums).
