The first time that I heard this band I was blown away. I just happened to be listening to KOUV Radio's "Thrash Zone," which is an internet radio program that airs on Monday evenings at 6PM (Eastern Standard Time). The show combines national music along with local bands as well as interviews and reviews. Well, as soon as the music started to play I was instantly hooked. There was one band in particular that I could not get enough of and that was Mechanism. Their sound was like nothing I have ever heard before. The vocals reminded me of Disturbed, but as the song began to take form, it raised the roof as far as I am concerned. The song that was featured was called "A Better Way," and it was a balanced mix of thrash and speed along with a few twists and turns along the way. All of a sudden, the song went from being heavy to soft, with piano and keyboard playing a very important part. And then finally, the song built up speed again and immersed itself back into the thrash style rhythm for the home stretch.
Needless to say, this band is off the charts good in my opinion. After hearing this song I did some research using Reverbnation to see more about what Mechanism was all about; and the results were the same. The group entertains raw passion and energy along with an important message with purpose. Mechanism has built an empire of fans around the northwest region. Another important aspect to point out is the band's ability to remain heavy and dark, while still maintaining a mainstream friendly element. In fact, their most recent EP, "Shadows and Dust" was produced by Kelly Gray (Queensryche, Candlebox, Nevermore, etc.). The band has matured both musically and professionally as they have immersed themselves in the lifestyle of being a rock band in today's society.
Mechanism has shared the stage with many local bands as well as supporting some very popular national bands (Sanctuary, Lynch Mob, Dokken) through the years. It surprises me that a band of this magnitude has not gained more national exposure. In fact, it would be a travesty if they remained under the radar and the amazing talent and star power were to go unnoticed. The band has received a ton of critical acclaim in the northwest region including some very respected awards and commendations. Some of these include 2011 Band of the Year (Chaos-Media), 2012 Metal Monthly Hall of Fame, and top 12 bands of 2012. Despite these achievements, Mechanism still remains in the land of the unknown. As a metal fan it is my obligation to help these underground metal bands become the instant powerhouse that they deserve to be. Especially in this day and age where good "new" bands are hard to come by. Mechanism is a band that transcends the norm and brings excitement back into the metal genre.
