Mark Sanchez was the 5th Pick in the 2009 NFL Draft by the New York Jets. Sanchez was highly touted out of USC, almost winning a national title for them. Instead, after one loss, Sanchez lead USC to a Rose Bowl win and Sanchez won the MVP Award for his performance against Penn State. Sanchez went 12-1 including the Rose Bowl win, had 3,207 Yards Passing, 34TD's and 10 Interceptions, second most in Trojan history only behind Matt Leinart. In Four seasons for the New York Jets, after being their Quarterback of the future, Sanchez went 33-29, and threw for 12,092 Yards, 68 Touchdowns and 69 Interceptions.
So, one would say...wow these are pretty pedestrian numbers for an NFL Quarterback. However; Sanchez was never surrounded with any superstar weapons and talent. Oh, did I forget to mention that Sanchez is 4-2 in the playoffs and that he took the Jets to two AFC Championship Games without tremendous talent. Yes, those 2009-2010 Jets teams did have stellar defensive corps. However; Sanchez was able to be a leader while also throwing for 1,155 Yards, 9 TD's and only 3 Interceptions. Sanchez miss the entire 2013 season due to a shoulder injury. He would then sign with the Eagles in the 2014 Offseason. After sitting behind prospect Nick Foles for the first 8 Games, Sanchez relieved the injured Foles last week and lead the Eagles to a 31-21 Victory over the Houston Texans.
Tonight, on Monday Night Football, Sanchez takes over as the Eagles signal caller and he has a very great opportunity with an offense that employs many star players. In my opinion, I think Mark Sanchez is a special talent and then put him on an offense behind Chip Kelly, and we could see some very special things. Chip Kelly is very familiar with Sanchez, as his Oregon Ducks faced USC a few times in college. Mark Sanchez is a much more mobile Quarterback than Nick Foles. So as the Eagles are set to take on the Carolina Panthers on Monday Night Football, its time to dissect the situation and what Sanchez has in front of him. I can see the Eagles using a heavy dose of the run early to then set up the play action pass late. I feel that Sanchez is going to surprise many Eagles fans as well as analysts.
MY PREDICTION...Eagles 28- Panthers-13. The Eagles win the game and Sanchez has 250 Yards Passing and 2 TD's. The Eagles will also score a Defensive Touchdown.
