When I first started my site, my goal was to just have fun and discuss some of the major topics in my two favorite realms of life...sports and music...specifically heavy metal \m/!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Little did I know that this opportunity would gain notoriety and put me on the map. Think about it...who would not want to follow their dreams right?? Well, I always wanted to be a rockstar and that probably will never happen (you never know anything is possible)...however I love journalism and reporting and have always been into history and current events. If I had to pick a dream job it would probably be as a reporter for ESPN! Well, I know that seems like a million miles away, but with hard work, dedication and networking everything is possible. How do you think the majority of TV and Radio personalities get their jobs. Yes it takes talent...but the number one factor that gets them the job is knowing someone and getting exposure.
By hooking up with PHILLY ROCK RADIO...I have been able to gain so much more exposure...not only in the music world, but also the sports world as people read my material and realize that I am also an avid sports fan. Of course...being a Philly Sports Fan, we do not have much to look forward to in 2015. However; the music world has many huge stories and happenings. In 2014, I was able to complete my first live interview with Maxxxwell Carlisle, the lead guitarist of the band HELLION. I never would have had this opportunity had I not joined Philly Rock Radio. Thanks again KEVIN LAW...you are the best. I was also able to go to a few live shows and showcase some up and coming local bands. The band that stood out to me is SLYPHR. Slyphr is composed of Ian Roberts (Lead Vocals), Sal Tomassello (Drums), Ric Haas (Guitar), and Alec McCloskey (Bass). Three of the members are graduates of the School of Rock in Philly and were all stars. Check them out in 2015...you will not be disappointed...trust me!!!!!!!
2014 enabled me to see a few bands that I had never witnessed live before. I saw Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails, Slipknot, and KORN. I had never saw any of these bands before, but I was treated to some of the best live shows that I have ever saw. I was also able to see Motley Crue for the last time, as I had 5th row seats. Although, it was a sad moment for me being a huge CRUE fan, it was also surreal as they put on a top notch show. 2014 also saw my favorite band Megadeth split up. I am looking forward to the new lineup, which could include Marty Freidman and Nick Menza, which would be a reunion of the most successful Megadeth Lineup. Who knows, there is so much turnover with bands today. AC/DC produced a brand new studio album, which unfortunately did not include Malcolm Young, one of the pioneers of the band, due to poor health. There were a few deaths as well, including Wayne Static from Static-X. There are so many other huge music stories in 2014 and I would not have enough ink to write about them all.
The world of sports in 2014 was dull as far as the local sports teams, but it did include some exciting entertainment. The Seattle Seahawks won the Super Bowl over the heavily favored Denver Broncos, who were lead by a resurgent Peyton Manning and a record setting offense. The San Francisco Giants won an unprecedented second world series in five seasons. The Los Angeles Kings won another Stanley Cup and the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Miami Heat for its 5th NBA Title. There were many other huge stories in the world of 2014 Sports. Locally, all of the Philadelphia Sports Teams were horrible. The Sixers finished last once again. The Flyers lost in the First Round of the Playoffs. The Phillies finished last in the division and saw an end of an era when Jimmy Rollins was traded to the Dodgers. And of course there was the Philadelphia Eagles...what a disappointment. 9-3 and in control of their own destiny and then ending 10-6 and out of the playoffs...wtf!!!!! Oh well, we can only dream that 2015 will be better.
As we move into 2015, The Philly Rock Radio Program is continuing to expand. One of my goals is to start a new segment...This Week in Rock...which would be me reporting on weekly rock stories. I also hope to join Kevin L and Johnny E on their set for an in depth interview. I am sure that there will be many more surprises. In the meantime...let us look forward as they say it is not good to live in the past, but yet look to the future with all guns blazing. I once again want to thank all of my friends, family, fans, foes and enemies a like for keeping my dream alive. If it was not for you...I would not be here writing this nonsense lol. In conclusion...I would like to extend my deepest condolences to ESPN Host Stuart Scott's family and friends, who lost his battle with cancer yesterday. Anyone that had the opportunity to see Stuart knows that he was iconic in his style of journalism and reporting. I seriously doubt that he will be matched.
******PLEASE READERS START TAKING ADVANTAGE OF MY POLLS...I DO NOT DO THEM FOR MY HEALTH BUT YET TO GET FEEDBACK. AND OF COURSE...IF ANYONE HAS ANY REQUESTS OR ADVICE...PLEASE DO SPEAK. IF NOT FOREVER HOLD YOUR PEACE.
I WILL LEAVE YOU WITH AN EXCLUSIVE VIDEO FROM THE BAND SLYPHR who you all will get to know in 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In the meantime...this is Jason Voorhees reporting for Philly Rock Radio...and goodnight.
