The first round featured a few key upsets, which included Pantera's "Cowboys From Hell" beating Slayer's "Reign In Blood" in an unexpected rout. Black Sabbath's "Heaven and Hell" also beat out the favorite "Hysteria" from Def Leppard in the early round. The second round was not much different as a few surprise albums were able to eke out some upsets. The biggest shocker saw Megadeth with their sophomore album "Peace Sells...But Who's Buying" take out one of the favorites of the entire tournament, "Paranoid." Judas Priest saw their classic "British Steel" take out Megadeth's powerhouse "Rust In Peace" in pretty easy fashion as well.
The Final Four was very entertaining as some of the albums went back and forth trading punches. Metallica, who had two albums in the Final Eight, had to be very proud of their effort. However; the Final Four saw the true works of art at their best. The Final Four consisted of AC/DC "Back in BlacK', Van Halen I, Metallica "Black Album" and Guns N Roses "Appetite For Destruction." Van Halen I was dominant in their effort by taking out the "Black Album." However; Guns N Roses "Appetite" gave AC/DC a run for their money. In the end it was "Back in Black" vs. "Van Halen I" After a close battle that was tied at the end, Van Halen blew up with an "Eruption" and took the championship. So, this was a very entertaining tournament that left many fans happy, while others were left shaking their heads. Nonetheless, the best album did win. Stay tuned for more bracket tournaments in the upcoming months. Until then...congratulations goes out to VAN HALEN I for their dramatic championship win.
