Ok, the first question is why? Why would the PHILADELPHIA EAGLES cut their all-pro, 3x Pro Bowler and best wide receiver. Well, I am sure for the next 48 Hours we will hear countless thoughts and opinions on this matter. Some of these opinions will be intelligent and diverse. Others will be dumbfounded and just ass nine. According to a NJ.COM article, entitled "DeSean Jackson's Gang Connections Troubling to Eagles." The article cited Jackson's association with Therion Shakir, one of two men who was charged with the 2010 murder of a 14 year old in South Los Angeles over what was believed to be a Gang Dispute. Shakir, who is a purported member of the CRIPS, was acquitted of the murder and related gun charge. The co-defendant Marques Binns, was convicted and sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.
I am not here to tell you that the only reason the Eagles made this decision was this report and his other gang related associations. I firmly believe that every BUSINESS DECISION ultimately always leads back to money. However; I do not believe that the Eagles main reason was to save money, as they are still on the hook for six out of ten million dollars on his remaining contract. Nonetheless, I do believe that this divorce has been escalating for a few years. Remember back, a few seasons ago Jackson stated that he quit half way through the season. Also, he has been reported to have been banned from numerous night clubs in Philadelphia, due to his irresponsible activity. Once again, this move by the Eagles has not been made because of his lack of performance on the field. Let us face it, DeSean Jackson is extremely talented. However, if you look at any good teams, there are many factors that go into keeping certain players. And players that are a problem off the field, can be a major distraction to a team trying to win a Super Bowl.
Also reported in this article, the writer states that Jackson was questioned twice about the murder and also that he used Crip Text on Instagram, referring to the Gang Crips. In a photo reportedly taken after Shakir's release, Jackson posed with Shakir who was wearing a L.A. County Jail shirt and a Jackson chain. Howie Roseman, the Eagles president even told Jackson to cease his activity on Instagram to no avail. Jackson continued to post on this cite right up to his release.
Everyone is missing the point regarding this decision by the Eagles to release Jackson. Many people who are misinformed about the whole story are stating that this move is absurd and that its only a money move. Fans are ready to jump off the Walt Whitman Bridge. This is CRAZY!!!! Fans are posting..."This is a sad day in Philadelphia Sports History"...like its a death or something. However, is DeSean really the type of player that the Eagles need in their locker room. Another cancer...can I say Terrell Owens. Jackson is a "Me, Me, Me Guy." T.O. was a Me-Me-ME Guy, but he was never involved in any questionable activity such as gang association. Secondly, WHY are fans acting like Jackson is "Jerry Rice" here...C'MON!
Seriously folks, DeSean Jackson is an above average wide receiver with loads of talent. However; Jackson is not on a Super Star Level...(i.e.. Calvin Johnson, Randy Moss, Jerry Rice, etc.). In my opinion, Jackson does not even crack the TOP TEN receivers in the NFL. In fact, there are not many teammates coming to Jackson's aide here. Even T.O. had more players having his back during his controversial tenure. Jason Kelce tweeted..."We made a very unpopular decision today but I couldn't be more happy with the direction this team is going!!
#FlyEaglesFly. What does this say about the Eagles when he has teammates that are not endorsing him. Maybe this says exactly what the problem is...that Jackson is a Cancer and the Eagles had to make this move to go forward. He has had multiple chances to change his attitude and appearance. Management even told him to stay off Instagram.
And then we have all of these dopes saying that the Eagles are "Racist."!!!!!!!!!!!?????? Are you kidding me guys?!!!!!!!!!!! Hello, these people are going on air blasting the Media as well as Eagles management, accusing them of racism. Grow up, move the F on and stop making this a white/black issue. You guys are Nuts. If this was a white player with the same pedigree, the same outcome would arise. Then of course the idiots saying this is a "smoke and gun issue." If this was only a money move...the Eagles would have traded him for anything!! I mean, they would have been happy to part with him for a 7th Round Pick. No, they never got an offer because the league knew the story about Jackson's troubles off the field and in the locker room. So it was supply and demand. There was no demand for Jackson as teams waited for the Eagles to inevitably do what any good would do.
Let us not forget just one year ago with the New England Patriots debacle. We all know what happened there. I am quite sure that DJACK will not have any problems landing with a new team. I am sure he will have many more productive years, barring any legal troubles. On a side note...Eagle's Lawyers have advised the team to not talk about this issue. Well, everyone is entitled to an opinion and I am curious to hear yours? Do you think the Eagles made the right decision? Do you think this is another example of racism?? Is this purely a money issue? I find any of those hard to believe. Oh well, the saga will continue. In the meantime...I am still excited about the direction this Eagles team is going under Chip Kelly.
